What is Power Tradeing?
Ive used the search function and could find anything, my question is some people say farming is, kinda rubbish dosh compared to power trading, and was wondering what it actually is.
My guess is that say u buy ectos 6.5k ea or summit sell for 7.5 n make a 1k profit, along those lines i've seen it mentioned but not too sure what it is and also how much money you reckon you would need to start out? Cheers, James |

Here's an example where I did a little Power Trading.
I bought a Gold Max Mursaat hammer req. 8 15%>50 for only 60k from someone. I, later, added perfect modifiers onto to it and then sold it to someone after some time in Lion's Arch for 500k. In short, buying low and selling high on a grand scale. |

I'm not sure I buy that example... especially since the components on a hammer are like 5k for a +30 mod. Granted that works to an extent, +400k for adding on 2 mods to a hammer isn't believable to me. Mursaat hammers rarely climb 150k as it is. You either suckered someone real good a LONG time ago, or told a good story. Either way that isn't likely to happen today. Especially with the nightfall inscription system. There are some models that don't drop with inscription slots, but they've been around so long not many hold their value very high. Those that do you aren't likely to con someone into selling for dirt cheap, like crystalline swords.
It's mostly about model and requirement now that nightfall is on the shelves. Mods are so plentiful it's ridiculous. 400k for a req 13 elemental sword is crazy. A req 9 collosal scimitar is even worse. Finding ways to quickly acquire decent value greens has always been my favorite method. A rotation of 20-30k greens is something I can spend an hour on every day. If you know how to do so efficiently you end up with so many you can undercut everyone and dump 700k worth in a few days. That's how I got my mesmer her fissure armor. Camping in town for 80 hours to find someone to sucker, then resell, isn't my idea of fun. Especially now that the margin of profit is getting so small. Better off buying presents for 300g a piece, waiting 2 months, then selling them for 1k, than trying to make that happen with gear. |

He most probably sold the hammer a while back, back when they were worth like 500k. He only added the mods so people think it looks better and nicer. Mursaat hammers at one point sold for over a million gold so what he said is most probably true.
Modding weapons to sell them does not make it easier to sell them for example. Adding 20/20 sundering and +30hp to a weapon may put players off who want 3/1 vamp and +5 armor and therefore they would not be willing to pay more for mods they will replace / dont need. You also need to understand the prices of items in guild wars and due to there being three chapters this could be kinda hard. maybe look at the ventaris sell section of gwg to get an idea. You dont want to start buying stuff when you dont have a clue what you are doing. I started power trading with just 10k but the reality is you really want 100k+ now so you are able to purchase most items if you see a bargain. You could start with say 50k but if you see an item for sale at 70k which is worth 250k you would not be able to buy it. You also want to ensure that the items you are buying are worth alot more than what you paid. there is no point trying to make 10k off items you spent say 60k on. It is a fast and effective way of making gold if you know what you are doing. |

Ectos are unreliable but effective power trading too.. buy 1.5k lower than merchant and hope by the time you amass allot they're either worth more or the same then sell 1k lowre than merchant.. slow but works

There is a legal loophole which allows in-game cash to be sold for real world money. A-Net can do nothing.

Yes. There is a solo ranger build for the forest area.
